Personal Statement
"For over three decades, I’ve dedicated my career to helping students and educators discover the transformative power of reading. As a Librarian, my passion has been creating spaces where books are more than just resources. They become connections, catalysts, and companions. I believe that even in this digital age, books and stories still have the power to center us, challenge us, and help us grow. Whether I’m mentoring new librarians, developing curriculum, or guiding educators through evolving compliance standards, my goal remains the same: to support meaningful learning experiences and ensure every student feels seen, inspired, and empowered through literature."

Work Experience
Carolyn Del Rio is a lifelong educator with over 30 years of experience in public education. Her career began in 1988 as a fourth-grade teacher, and she later took on the role of Gifted and Talented coordinator, where she taught hundreds of exceptional students and authored rigorous, cross-curricular units for a local GT enrichment company.
In 2000, Carolyn transitioned into the library field and discovered her true passion: helping students build meaningful connections to books and prioritize reading in an increasingly digital world. Over the past 25 years, she has led both campus and district-wide library programs that champion literacy, build student and community engagement, and foster instructional collaboration.
Carolyn has mentored new librarians for the past five years, guiding their professional growth through structured goal-setting and reflective practices. Most recently, she stepped into the role of SISD’s Compliance Librarian, where she is focused on supporting librarians and classroom teachers in navigating new state mandates under Texas SB12 and SB13. Her work centers on providing educators with the tools, clarity, and confidence needed to implement these laws effectively and meaningfully.
